Laurel Lee, C.N.M., M.S.N., N.P.
Laurel Lee has been in professional practice specializing in Midwifery
& Women's Health since 1984, in the Portland metro area. She combines
conventional medicine with the science of botanical (herbal) medicine,
nutraceutical supplements and bio-identical hormones to optimize women's
health.
Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNM) /Nurse-Practitioners (NP) care for women throughout their reproductive years and into menopause. A long-time advocate of holistic, complementary medicine, she brings an extensive knowledge of medical herbalism to her practice. She holds a certificate in Phytomedicine. Additionally, Laurel has studied functional medicine as it relates to healthy aging and is certified as a First Line Therapy Health Care Provider.
Laurel received her bachelor's degree in nursing at Texas Women's University in Dallas, Texas. She received her masters degree in science with a specialty in nurse-midwifery and minor in management from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. As a participant in their International Exchange Program, she practiced in Monterrey, Mexico, for several months.
Professional practice has had a private and public health focus. When she moved to Oregon, Laurel helped develop the Salud Midwifery Service in Woodburn, Oregon primarily serving the migrant farm worker community. Labor and birth took place at Oregon Health Science University Hospital. In 1987, Laurel moved to Legacy Health System and was one of the "founding midwives" of the Legacy Midwifery Service. Labor and births were with Emanuel Hospital. Wanting to focus on complementary women's health Laurel expanded her practice and worked at Women's Care Associates for 3 years. Most recently she worked with the physicians/health care professionals at Everywoman's Health, a private Obstetrics and Gynecology practice. In the 13 years at Everywoman's Health, she developed a holistic, complementary approach to women's health. Philosophy of practice: "My practice encompasses caring for women throughout their lifetime. This span of years follows puberty, adolescence, pregnancy, transitional years of premenstrual, perimenopause, menopause and geripause. My practice focuses on optimizing health and well-being."
Laurel speaks and writes professionally about women's health care issues. She has provided workshops/lectures for the annual American College of Nurse-Midwives convention, Birthingway Midwifery School, Doulas of North America, Northwest Childbirth Educators Forum, OHSU Graduate Nursing Program among other organizations.She and her family enjoy camping. When not in her herb and tea garden, Laurel plays the ukulele, cross-country skis, hikes in the alpine country and enjoys raising her two sons. To maintain a balance and perspective, she practices Jade Woman Qi Gong.
Laurel will be relocating to a new office in the fall 2006. At that location she will be accepting new patients.
